Method of Calculation Data source specific method of calculation: DHS: Numerator: Number of men aged 20 to 24 years whose first marriage or consensual union occurred before age 18. Denominator: Number of men aged 20 to 24 years, including those who have never been married or in a consensual union. Calculation: Numerators are divided by the overall denominator and multiplied by 100. IPUMS: The number of men age 20 to 24 years who married before age 18 divided by the total number of men age 20 to 24 years. Age at marriage is determined using the IPUMS AGEMARR variable, which indicates age at first marriage or consensual union. Samples vary in treatment of consensual unions.
