Proportion of girls aged 10-14 years who have undergone female genital mutilation. Female genital mutilation (FGM) refers to “all procedures involving partial or total removal of the female external genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons".<br></p>

The denominator includes all living daughters age 10-14 of all women who participate in the FGC module. The number of daughters age 10-14 is taken from the woman’s birth history. In the FGC module, no data is collected on the circumcision status of daughters of women who have never heard of FGC, though in this indicator they are all assumed to be ‘not circumcised.’ Circumcision status of girls is reported by their mothers.<br></p> |
