Number of de facto women aged 15 to 49 years who are HIV positive For surveys with testing to distinguish between HIV-1 and HIV-2: 2. Number of de facto women aged 15 to 49 years who are HIV-1 positive 3. Number of de facto women aged 15 to 49 years who are HIV-2 positive 4. Number of de facto women aged 15 to 49 years who are HIV-1 or HIV-2 positive
Denominator:
Number of de facto women aged 15 to 49 years interviewed and tested. This is the number of women who completed an individual interview, whose blood specimen completed the HIV testing algorithm for the survey with a final HIV test result, i.e., positive, negative, indeterminate, or inconclusive.
Calculation:
The HIV test results data should first be merged to the women’s dataset by cluster number, household number and line number. This file also contains a sample weight variable with a separate non-response adjustment for participation in the survey HIV test. Cases are weighted by the HIV sample weight, not the women’s sample weights. Numerator divided by the denominator, multiplied by 100.

Expected Frequency of Data Dissemination
Annual

Geospatial Dimension Availability
Country (geolev0), Sub-national level 1 (geolev1)

Time Dimension Availability
2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019

Disaggregation Dimension Availability
Age at first sexual intercourse: <16 years old, 16 to 17 years old, 18 to 19 years old, 20 years old and over, Missing
Age group: 15 to 19 years old, 15 to 24 years old, 20 to 24 years old, 20 to 29 years old, 25 to 29 years old, 25 to 34 years old, 30 to 34 years old, 30 to 39 years old, 35 to 39 years old, 35 to 49 years old, 40 to 44 years old, 40 to 49 years old, 45 to 49 years old
Antenatal care for last birth in the last 3 years: No antenatal care or no birth, Provided by other than the public sector, Provided by the public sector
Condom use at last sexual intercourse in past 12 months: Did not use , No sexual intercourse, Used
Currently pregnant: Not pregnant, Pregnant
Education level: Higher, No education, No education or primary education, Primary education, Secondary education, Secondary education or higher
Employment: Employed, Unemployed
Marital status: Currently married or living together, Divorced or separated, Never married, Never married, ever had sex, Never married, never had sex, Widowed
Multiple sexual partners and partner concurrency in past 12 months: 0 partners, 1 partner, Two or more partners, Two or more partners, had concurrent partners, Two or more partners, none of the partners were concurrent
Number of lifetime partners: 1, 10+, 2, 3-4, 5-9
Place of residence: Rural, Urban
Prior HIV testing: Ever tested, Ever tested and received results, Ever tested but did not receive results, Never tested
Sex: Female
Sexually transmited infection in past 12 months: Had STI or STI symptoms, No STI, no symptoms
Time away from home in past 12 months: Away for less than 1 month, Away for more than 1 month, Not away
Type of union: Non-polygynous union, Not currently in union, Polygynous union
Wealth index: Middle, Poorer, Poorest, Richer, Richest

Comments
The HIV prevalence reflects current HIV infection on the day the blood sample was taken. In surveys which include both centralized laboratory testing for HIV and rapid testing for HIV in the household, the survey prevalence is based on the results of the laboratory testing only. For surveys with testing to distinguish between HIV-1 and HIV-2, only those tested and found positive for HIV-1 (including those found positive for HIV-1 only, as well as those found positive for both HIV-1 and HIV-2, numerator 2) are included in tabulations except in DHS-7 table 14.3.
