Data source specific method of calculation:
IPUMS:
The number of persons who are disabled divided by the total population. In line with Washington Group guidelines, persons were considered disabled if they indicated "a lot of difficulty" or "cannot do at all" with regards to one of the following six activities: seeing (even if wearing glasses), hearing (even if using a hearing aid), walking or climbing steps, remembering or concentrating, self-care, communicating or being understood. This indicator is only available for the following five censuses which included the Washington Group short set of questions on disability: Brazil 2010, Tanzania 2012, South Africa 2011, Vietnam 2009, Uruguay 2011. This indicator was calculated using unharmonized source variables.

The Vietnam 2009 and Uruguay 2011 censuses did not include questions on difficutly communicating/being understood or difficulty with self care. The Brazil 2010 census did not include questions on difficulty concentrating, difficulty communicating/being understood, or difficulty with self care.
