In line with Washington Group guidelines, persons were considered disabled if they indicated "a lot of difficulty" or "cannot do at all" with regards to one of the following six activities: seeing (even if wearing glasses), hearing (even if using a hearing aid), walking or climbing steps, remembering or concentrating, self-care, communicating or being understood. This indicator is only available for the following five censuses which included the Washington Group short set of questions on disability: Brazil 2010, Tanzania 2012, South Africa 2011, Vietnam 2009, Uruguay 2011.
