Method of Calculation
Data source specific method of calculation:
IPUMS:
The number of private households with internet access divided by the total number of private households. Internet access is determined using the IPUMS INTERNET variable, which indicates whether the household had an internet connection. There is variation across countries and samples with regards to measuring access and ownership. Most samples ask about internet access, while some specify or imply that the household surveyed owned an internet connection or a computer with an internet connection. Internet access is not reported for group quarters such as institutions and other collective dwellings for most censuses. For this reason, group quarters are excluded from both numerator and denominator of this indicator. Group quarters are identified using the IPUMS GQ variable: Link.
