Data source specific method of calculation:

IPUMS:
The number of persons age 80 or older living alone in private households divided by the total population age 80 or older living in private households. One-person households are identified using the IPUMS PERSONS variable, which reports the number of person records included in the household.This indicator is calculated for private households only.
